Duties
The medication technician is responsible for the delivery of medical care and medications to patients. This includes performing routine, non-routine or emergency procedures in accordance with established protocols and providing patient care services as directed by physicians. This may include administering medication according to prescribed dosages and maintaining records of all supplies used during treatment.
Detailed job duties include:
- Perform routine and complex sterile treatment procedures in accordance with established standards.
- Perform daily, weekly or monthly laboratory tests on patients to determine the level of patient care required for each patient.
- Review all documentation related to medication orders received from physicians prior to delivery.
- Analyze patient records using appropriate software programs.
- Provide accurate information regarding medications used by patients including dosage levels, doses, duration and quality control measures.
- Complete paperwork accurately.
Qualification
- High school diploma or GED required
- Must be able to read, write and speak English fluently
- Ability to perform basic math skills such as numbering, decimals, percentages and ratios
- Excellent communication skills including presentation abilities
- Strong organizational skills
- Previous experience working on an electronic medical record system is preferred
