As an optometric assistant, you will be responsible for providing excellent customer service through your work. You will also assist physicians by performing routine eye exams on patients while maintaining professional standards.
Duties
The optometric assistant is responsible for providing a high level of patient care by performing routine eye exams, as well as administering prescriptions and other procedures. This position requires the ability to work independently with minimal supervision in order to maintain good customer relations. In addition, this individual must be comfortable scheduling appointments, answering phones and making phone calls. This person will also need some experience using Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel).
Detailed job duties include:
- Assist patients in the selection of lenses and frames.
- Provide patient education on eyewear usage including prescriptions for glasses, contacts, ophthalmic instruments, etc.
- Perform duties as assigned by physician or optometrist to ensure that all necessary equipment is available.
- Maintain accurate records regarding optical examination results and store findings with medical records.
- Complete daily reports.
Qualification
- Must be able to lift 50 pounds
- Ability and willingness for continuous learning, both in person and over the phone
- Must possess good organizational skills
- Ability/willingness of working independently or on your own when needed.
- Strong customer service orientation
- Able to multitask
- Excellent verbal and written communications skills
- Professional appearance is required
